Fashion Weekend at Somerset house Saturday

Today I went to London fashion weekend at Somerset house sponsored by Vodafone. I started the day off with the trend catwalk show for 2014 trends. The show was set up by the outnet and featured many of the trends that I had noticed, lace, florals, sport and metallics. Personally I was surprised by the catwalk show. We were told that the garments had come straight off the runway. However I was both delighted and surprised by Erdem spring 2013 piece in the show. I was expecting to see brand new Christopher can embroidered jumpers from the 2014 show and Lanvin and Tom ford for metallic looks. However I found the pieces in the show were simple but were crafted beautifully with such attention to detail.

One of my favourite looks was the yellow dress. The colour caught my attention from afar and as the model drew closer towards us I saw the fascinating intricate laser cut pattern on the surface of the dress.

Another piece that caught my eye was the stunning blue jacket. The pictures do not give the colour justice.

Finally this sport outfit seemed to be the highlight of the show. The metallic silver jacket with the bold blue and red latex skirt, was a bold statement look! It combined the main trends of 2014 of sport and metallics.

Erdem 2013 spring collection. Interesting to see this in a 2014 spring summer show....

My day in pictures...i had a wonderful day today! I really feel like I made the most out of the day going to all te talks taking notes, pictures and talking to so many different people. It's really given me confidence in myself to put myself out there as a young artist. This industry is something I really want to learn more about. Anyway here are some pictures of my day...

What a wonderful day! I think london is the most romantic city in the world. Romance is a little different from Shakespeare and keats in today's modern age...Now someone opening the door and letting you in fist is considered romantic...

Fashion Illustrations

Here are some fashion illustrations I have recently created for a personal project I am pursuing. I was looking at Music from the 70s and 60s and mainly Rockstars. I wanted to look at their physical appearance and create designs using visual imagery from the great music. For this I did research into what inspired the songs such as religion, philosophy, space and time travel...

I Focused the project on David Bowie, taking inspiration from his multiple personas and his music. In my opinion Bowie's music is art. Many people define art as a painting on a wall or a sculpture...when people say "I can't even draw stick men" I get so angry! Picasso spent his whole life trying to imperfect his picturesque drawings, not to be 'bad' but to recapture the innocence of a child through childlike drawings.

To me Music, paintings, clothing, photographs...it's all art and its everywhere and it influences each other.

I drew the Illustrations using Pen and Pro-markers. I then inverted them on photoshop.

60s Revival

Recently I have noticed in the 2014/2015 Autumn/Winter shows that there is a strong vibe for 60s and 70s silhouettes, patterns and colours.
The first signs of this trend was seen in the Miu Miu 2014 SS show. Now it is all over the catwalk in shows such as Dsquared2 and Gucci.

DSQUARED2

One of my favourite shows of Fashion Week has been the Dsquared2 show. Everything in the show reminded me of an elegant modern day Audrey Hepburn. Each garment was beautifully tailored and screamed 60s. However it did remind me a lot of Miu Miu's past shows.

This is my favourite look from the show! I love the idea of wearing underwear or sleepwear out in public. There is something so brilliantly simple and sexy.

Remotely Fashion

At the London Fashion Weekend I had the pleasure of hearing the two beautiful fashion bloggers of Remotely Fashion, Miriam and Siobhan, give a talk about the realities of Blogging.

Their talk expressed the positives and negatives of fashion blogging not only for an individual but for the industry.

Their story

The two met in Japan when Miriam sparked a conversation with Soibhan over her brogues. The two decided to start a blog together and since then Miriam has moved from her 'grey' old office job to become a stylist.

Tips on Blogging from Miriam and Siobhan...
A blog should be fun. Make you smile. The two say that they are feminists and their blog is never used for bitching or gossiping purposes. It is purely  a website in which two fashion passionate women express their love and fascination over fashion. They use their blog as a form of media.

A blog is a community of people who are unofficially published. They want their opinion heard and out there. Many Magazines and writers write to please designers and their advertisers. However on a blog you have the voice and the power to agree or disagree with what others are saying.

Additionally a Blog is a great way to get your work out there. It is a great way to create a portfolio and you may even end up with a job or connection from it.

Something you NEED when blogging is a thick skin! Not everyone will agree with what you are saying and that is fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you are yours. As long as what you are saying isn't hurting anyone then you are fine to express your views. For example Miriam and Siobhan disagree on denim jackets. They're not for everyone.

Blogging Benefits for the industry...
Celebrating fashion through blogging is giving the fashion industry love and attention. It brings it to everyone from all walks of life all around the world. The bloggers are creating their own form of media and its genuine! Blogs are created to celebrate and love the Fashion world!!

More from the 2014 trend catwalk show!

Here are a few more pictures from the catwalk show predicting the trends of 2014.

According to the trends show in 2014 we should be seeing lace garments. But instead of the wallflower elegance lace is known fr designers have channeled it in a more striking statement making approach.

As predictable as rain in England, florals is another trend expected to be seen this summer of 2014. However this year florals are clashed with bright colours and beautiful artistic techniques that make different from anything we have seen before.

The third trend is metalics...in my opinion they are having a simular comeback to 2010 in terms of colour. Jade greens, violets and aqua tones will be popular as seen on Rita ora and Lily Allen at the brit awards. Lanvin's 2014 show has produced his own exotic and powerful takes on the metalic look.

And finally the last trend was Good Sport. Sportswear seems to be taking off as a comfortable and simply effective style anyone can pull off. We were told to dig out our trainers and our Nike shoes so we could follow the trend also.
